Mentor
This role is the heart and soul of our program, and also one of the most significant time-commitments. Read more about the mentor relationship.
GED Tutors
These volunteers commit about two hours a week to help students reach their goal of passing the GED exam. The students work at their own pace using established curriculum.
Computer Teacher Assistants
Classes include Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic keyboarding skills. Assistants are vital for helping the students one–on–one during computer classes.
Meal Providers
Sponsors provide lunch or dinner for students on class days or for special events.
Clothes Closet Help
Volunteers process donations and help women find the perfect employment appropriate attire and accessories.
Event Planners
Special events throughout the year include orientation, mentor socials, graduation celebrations, and our annual Circles Luncheon.
Photographers and Writers
Help us record and communicate the important events of our ministry and achievements of our students.
Internship Sites
Companies provide volunteer and paid, entry-level internship opportunities for our students and a supervisor to help oversee the process. This valuable hands-on experience makes all the difference in preparing women for future employment.

Becoming a Mentor

Mentorship is one of the most satisfying opportunities for volunteering. It is essential to the heart of CJC’s ministry for each participant to have someone to call on for encouragement and support after the official program ends. This relationship helps the student keep the commitments made while in the program and provides the support needed to make real and lasting changes.
Mentorship is a commitment to a a six-month relationship with the student, during which the mentor and mentee must meet a total of 14 one-hour visits and have 14 phone calls. A prospective member must meet the volunteer requirements and be an active member in a local church.
Mentor Responsibilities
The role of mentor to a program participant requires a significant commitment. It is a beautiful investment of time and relationship that makes a lasting impact in the life of a student.
Before being paired with a student, all mentors must attend mentor training, where they will learn more about Christian Job Corps as well as the specifics involved in a mentoring relationship.
After being paired with a mentee, the mentor must submit a monthly report to their mentor coordinator. Throughout the six-month mentor commitment, the mentor and mentee must meet a total of 14 times for one-hour visits and have 14 phone calls.
Principle Responsibilities of a Mentor
- Consistently prays for assigned mentee.
- Contacts mentee at least once a week.
- Has regular Bible study with mentee.
- Sets both long-term and short-term goals with mentee.
- Encourages accountability and follow-through behavior by monitoring mentee’s goals.
- Assists mentee in finding information needed to reach goals.
- Promotes mentee’s self-esteem.
A mentor must be an active member of a local church and meet the volunteer requirements for CJC.

We are currently looking to hire a Site Coordinator, Recruitment Coordinator, and Office Manager.

The Christian Job Corps part-time Site Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is employed by the CJC Board of Directors. The basic function of this position is to assist in the development and coordination for a CJC program at a particular site.
Christian Job Corps
Site Coordinator (Part-Time)
Reports To
The Christian Job Corps part-time Site Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is employed by the CJC Board of Directors.
Basic Function
To assist in the development and coordination for a CJC program at a particular site. Position is part-time with hours to be determined per site and class hours.
Principal Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership for the CJC project site (location)
- Assist in recruitment of volunteers and participants
- Assist in providing or arranging for the interviewing and training of volunteers
- Supervise CJC staff (if applicable) and volunteers at the project site
- Maintain accurate records
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors in the absence of the Executive Director
- Represent CJC to the community
- Conduct participant evaluations
- Actively look for job placement/internship opportunities
- Prepare and submit to Executive Director a Site Ministry Plan
- Prepare and submit an annual report to national WMU according to the guidelines
Basic Qualifications
This person needs to be a Christian active in a local church with good interpersonal skills and must have demonstrated leadership qualities. Also must possess the ability to communicate the purpose of CJC with staff, volunteers, and community.
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in related field (i.e., social work, psychology, business management, education, etc.)
- 2. Completion of CJC certification training upon hiring (required)

Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for recruiting students and mentors and for planning special events. The position is for 30 hours per week and includes paid time off and sick leave.
Christian Job Corps
Recruitment Coordinator (Full-Time)
Reports To:
The Christian Job Corps Recruitment Director reports to the Board of directors through the Executive Director.
Basic Function:
To actively recruit participants and mentors as needed as well as oversee mentors and other related volunteers for the mentor program of the Christian Job Corps. This is a full time salaried position and the hours worked are 30 hours per week. Two weeks of the year will be considered paid vacation and may be scheduled at the discretion of the employee and with the supervisor’s approval. This time may not be carried over into the next year.
Principal Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Director in developing a recruiting plan for mentors and participants.
- Monitor the recruiting plan and provide monthly reports to the Executive Director which will be sent to the Board of Directors.
- Recruit mentors, students, and other volunteers as needed.
- Make arrangements for orientation and interviews with potential volunteers.
- Oversee the collection and maintenance of all paperwork necessary in enlisting mentors.
- Oversee reference checks on all potential students and mentors and provide this information to the Executive Director or Site Coordinator as appropriate.
- Collect and maintain files on prospective participants and arrange for interviews at each site.
- Oversee the participant application process and provide information to potential applicants to the program.
- Assist with administrative duties as hours allow.
- Coordinate schedules with the Mentor Training Team.
- Supervise active mentors during the mentor phase. Provide assistance to mentors when needed and oversee mentor reports.
- Follow up with participants who have completed the classroom phase 1 of the program to determine if the mentor/mentee relationship is successful according to the designated guidelines.
- Attend Board of Directors' meeting at the request of the Executive Director or the Board.
- Represent the Christian Job Corps at various area functions when needed.
- Maintain a daily schedule of appointments which should be included in the monthly report submitted to the Board of Directors.
- Provide a recruiting report to the Board during each semester.
Basic Qualifications
Mature Christian active in a local church with good interpersonal skills. Understands and can communicate effectively the purpose of CJC. Candidates should have resume which indicates experience in public speaking, public relations, and recruiting.
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field (i.e. Social Work, Psychology, Business Management, Education, etc…)
- Willing to allow background check (required)
- A good working knowledge of the computer
- Experience working with community volunteers
- Excellent relational skills, including ease in relating to diverse educational/socio-economic constituents, friendliness, encouragement, excitement about mission, and willingness to assist/serve the needs of others

Office Manager is responsible for office administration and volunteer coordination. The position is for 20 hours per week.
Christian Job Corps
Volunteer Coordinator/Office Manager
Reports To:
The Volunteer Coordinator/Office Manager reports to the Executive Director. Position is part-time at 20 hours/week for 48 weeks a year, working a total of 48 weeks per year.
Basic Function:
To assist the Executive Director and Recruitment Coordinator with recruitment and give administrative support to all of the sites.
Principal Responsibilities
- Recruit volunteers (other than mentors) for any of the sites. This includes interviews, training (if necessary) and placement of volunteers as well as processing paperwork.
- Assist Recruitment Coordinator with mentor recruitment. This includes processing paperwork and assistance with matching mentors with participants.
- Assist Recruitment Coordinator with mentor training, to include preparation of training materials and logistics of mentor training
- Assist Recruitment Coordinator with student recruitment efforts and processing of student applications
- Provide administrative assistance when needed
- Supervise clothes closet volunteers, to include recruitment, scheduling, and volunteer appreciation.
- Maintain supply inventory and assist with delivering supplies to all sites
- Maintain schedule and list of potential lunch providers for the FBC site
- Coordinate set up and cleanup of daily lunches for FBC
- Provide PowerPoint presentations for events such as Circles and Graduation
- Assist Executive Director with correspondence
- Represent CJC to the community
- Other assignments as needed
Basic Qualifications
This person needs to be a mature Christian active in a local church with good interpersonal skills and must have demonstrated leadership qualities. Must interact well with CJC students and volunteers. Also must possess the ability to communicate with the staff, volunteers and community the purpose of CJC.

Must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) or above.
